Hello,
Recently while examining the IGI I noticed an entry for Walter, son of
Walter & Alice Aston, baptized 22 February 1610 in Standon,
Staffordshire (P009971 = Salt's _Standon Parish Register, 1558-1812_).
Could this possibly be Walter Aston of Virginia? The date is
slightly off based upon the age given on his tombstone (died 6 April
1656, ae. 49, thus born ca. 1607) but still it is close enough that it
seems to deserve attention. Does anyone know anything more about this
Walter?
Sincerely,
Kelsey J. Williams

I suggest that, as a preliminary measure, you search indexes to
Protestation and Hearth Tax Returns for Staffordshire and neighbouring
counties. If you find a Walter Aston, then it may eliminate the Standon
candidate.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have any indexes been published or are
they all in manuscript or on microfilm?

Some Derbs. Hearth Tax returns with index were published by Derbyshire
Record Society. There are "Gibson guides" which should list other indexes
and printed material.
