Costantini (Venice)

According to the old chronicles, the Costantini family descended from
the gens Cassii of the old Rome.
In the early days many Costantini served as tribunes.
In 1125 Alessio Costantini was reaffirmed as member of the Major
Council. He had just arrived to Venice from Costantinople, where they
moved for business purpose.
The patrician line of the Costantini became extinct in Venice in 1348.
Another line came to its end in 1380. But for many more years the line
of Candia, established there in 1211, flourished.
In Venice also a line of citizens remained. They descended from a
certain Domenico, who was excluded of the Consiglio in 1297 because he
had not taken part of its meetings for more than 4 years. The citizen
line also produced many important civil servants. They had a very nice
chapel in the church of La Carità. During the years this line divided
in many branches. Many of these branches lived in S. Gregorio. And
some others moved to Rovigno and Pisino d'Istria.
