The Coreggio family, that according to some descended from the lords
of Correggio, originated in Bergamo. Arrived to Venice they settled
next to the Fondaco dei Tedeschi. There they attached their arms,
three rings or "coreggi".
Barbaro starts the genealogy tree from a certain Orazio of S.
Cassiano. His sons Agostin and Zandonà, born in 1604 and in 1608,
respectively, in 1646 offered 100 thousand "ducati" to the Repubblica
during the War of Candia; for this they were annexed with their
descendants to the Venetian "patriziato". In the "supplica" they
assured that they have been in Venice for two centuries. The two
brothers bought a house in "contrà de S. Cassan, in Calle della
Regina, sora Canal Grando".
The line of the Coreggio of Venice extiguished with "Zandonà q.
Orazio", who commited suicide on the 25th June 1738, leaving his
Palace to another line of the family which lived in Naples. In 1740
"Agostin Coregio q. Piero da Napoli" notified the "X Savii", among his
properties, a house in "contrà de S. Cassan, in Calle della Regina
[...] guarda sopra Canal Grande".
In Ca' Coreggio in S. Cassiano there was on the 2nd November 1758, a 4
hour fire which almost destroyed the palace.
