Just a quick question for all to ponder on. I will be away from my computer
for a day or so, so take your time in answering. I have a Maurice Berkeley,
born about 1298, son of a Maurice Berkeley and Eva la Zouche. He is said to
have married a Margaret Berkeley, who is said to be a daughter of who else, but
a Maurice Berkeley of Uley/Uliegh, Gloucestershire. I have just noticed the
tie-in, so I have not had a chance to research Margaret. Does anyone know her
ancestry. The one website I know for certain that shows this connection is
Stirnet.com, altho I only use them for a general guideline in researching
lines. I am sorry not to have more info, but I am getting ready to leave base
here, to go home on 2 weeks R & R. Once I get home , I will be online to go at
the Berkeleys again

It's always worth checking the archive rather than pondering or waiting days
for an answer - Douglas Richardson posted about this twice, at his best, in
August 2002, see

Another site with lots of Medieval Berkeleys is former SGM poster Tim
Powys Lybbe's. Tim transferred Smyth's Berkeley Genealogy of 1628 to
GEDCOM and uploaded it. See http://powys.org/

The bad news is this source has just what you describe. Clearly Smyth
in his exhaustive study of the Berkeleys knew nothing more. Nor can
Tim locate Margaret's father although he speculates Sir Maurice of
Uley might have been the fourth son of Maurice IV, Lord Berkeley and
that he had a wife Katherine.
