The question-mark in your title is appropriate, given the statement at
page 3 of the article that the relationship between Cospatrick, the
12th century progenitor of the subsequent Swintons, and his
predecessor Ernulf is "uncertain".

Very interesting, nevertheless. There must be a number of other very
interesting ascents.

The paper skips so much I can't follow it.

Sir John Swynton, 14th is the one who is supposed to have married
Margaret de Mar, daughter of Donald the 8th Earl of Mar by his wife
Isabel Stewart.

Margeret's previous husband William, 1st Earl Douglas had died May
1384

Is John, 15th of that Ilk supposed to be Margaret's son? If so, it
gives him a narrow seven year window to be born into, towit 1386-93
