Sibilla Ogilvy, wife of Sir John Falconer, Master of the Min

Hello,

Has anybody had any luck on finding who were the parents of Sibilla
Ogilvy, wife of Sir John Falconer, Master of the Mint? During a
google search, I came across a web site "FIVE SCRYMGEOUR WOMEN" by
Jack Blair, which mentions that Elizabeth (Scrymgeour) Ogilvy, wife of
John Ogilvy of Powrie, son of Gilbert Ogilvy of that Ilk and Sibilla
Drummond, mentioned an unmarried daughter named Sibilla in her 1614
will. Does anybody know whether this Sibilla Ogilvy died young or
married someone else? I'm wondering if she could be the wife of Sir
John Falconer, Master of the Mint. It would be nice to see if any of
the siblings or other relatives of this Sibilla Ogilvy mention Sir
John Falconer in their will or in other documentation. Does anybody
know of any good sources on this particular Ogilvy family?

The web site mentioned above is:

I've done quite a bit of searching for Sibilla's family. Probably the

only way to prove the identity would be to locate a marriage contract
in the Register of Deeds. The Register of Deeds for this period was
kept by five separate clerks, and the only way to search them is to go
through the contemporary calendar books chronogically and to look for
"Ogilvy v. Falconer" or vice versa. I went through all five, for the
years 1625 to 1635 or so, and didn't find any. However, John was
probably born around 1600, and the marriage could have taken place
before 1625.

The name "Sibilla" was uncommon, and I've checked as many of the cadet
Ogilvy families as possible for the name. I think you located the
right one, although without a marriage contract it would be impossible
to prove. I looked a Elizabeth Scrymgeour's testament. Jack Blair's
website is wrong about her death date. The testament testamentar says
that she died in 1613. As he says, it mentions her, giving her a
feather bed, etc. I haven't yet transcribed it all.

The other point is that the testament-dative of Sibilla Ogilvy, spouse
of John Falconer, younger son of Sir Alexander Falconer of Halkerton,
was proved in the Brechin Commissary Court. This indicates, I think,
that her property (and thus family) was in that jurisdiction.
Elizabeth Scrymgeour's testament was also proved in the same court,
and there weren't many other Ogilvies with testaments there.

Everything else seems right----I think Blair's estimated birth date
for Elizabeth Scrymgeour as 1555 is a bit too early----her parents'
marriage contract is given variously as 1557 or 1563. She could have
been born around 1565 and easily have had a daughter Sibilla, born
around 1600. The Falconers were rising in society at that time, two
of John's uncles being named peers (Earls of Southesk and Northesk),
so the social class is appropriate.
