Hello to all,

We find frequetly mentioned in french sources of the hundred years war
a Guillaume de Felton or de Felleton, chevalier.

I summarize was I have found here and there in sources.

He is said sometimes to have been son of a Payen (sic) de Felton,
knight.

He was one of the captains of John Chandos under the Black Prince in
France. He became from 1361 english senechal of Poitou and was granted
by the King of England the castles of Cherveux and du Bois-Pouvreau.
On his own, he purchased in 1365 the important seigneurie of Guillac.

After 1340, he made an almost princely marriage with Jeanne de Laval
(d/o Andre de Laval, seigneur de Chatillon-en-Vendelais, Loue,
Aubigne, and Eustachie de Baucay, dame de Benais). They had 3 sons :
Jean, sgr de Guillac, Cherveux et Bois-Pouvreau; Roger, tresorier de
Saint-Hilaire; and Robert.

During a military expedition in Castile in 1367, both he and his
brother Thomas, senechal de Bordeaux (not the be confused with Sir
Thomas Felton, senechal of Aquitaine + 1381, though certainly a
relative) died in battle. His widow remarried soon after 1367 with
Guillaume III, seigneur de Courceriers (+ 1397, bur. abbaye de
Champagne) which she also outlived, dying after 1418. This second
union is prooven by the marriage contract of her daughter Roberde de
Courceriers with Bertrand I de Montbourcher, in 1384, which was
witnessed by her maternal uncle, Jean de Laval, sgr de Chatillon, and
as well by her cousin Guy XII, sire de Laval, head of the familly.

The englisman Guillaume de Felton, chevalier, is evidently a Sir
William de Felton, knight. Can anybody enlight us on the english
background of this important character of the Hundred years war in
Poitou.

Jean, I have some material on him archived away, since he actively
worked for Edward during the Scottish wars. Give me a week or so to
dig it out and get it posted.

Sir Aymer de Athol of Jesmond and Felton (d 1402) married Eleanor de
Felton perhaps around 1340.

Sir William de Felton, Northumberland b ca 1300 d bef. 24 February
1359/60 (IPM) married Isabel of Fife about 1340. She married 4 or 5
times, dsp. He had a son Sir John.

These may or may not be connected to each other and/or to your quest.
