This is a persistent error that I've seen in print many places, e.g.,

Notice that in this scenario, Samuel is made to marry at about age 17,
which should have raised someflags. However, his wife's mother,
Susanna (Newhall) Haven, was from a family settled at Lynn,
Massachusetts, which may have made the connection seem more likely.

However, there are several references in the Essex Quarterly Court
records from the late 1670s which mention that John Cogswell was
"administrator of the estate of Samuel Cogswell." These are certainly
references to the only two sons of John Cogswell, Jr. (d. 1653), and
his unknown wife.
