Marriage of Dorothea (Scott) Gotherson's aunt Catherine Scot

This tidbit may help augment information on the Scott aunts of
Dorothea Gotherson. See the second item in the list below, which
mentions some "London depositions taken in the case of Thomas Clerke
and Katherine his wife and John Bragg, gent., and Mary his wife vs.
Judith Scott, widow."

The _Lists and Indexes_ item I posted this summer helped prove that
Dorothea's aunt Mary was married to a John Bragg.

The involvement of these two ladies with "Judith Scott, widow," above,
appears to prove that Dorothea's mother was Judith Thompson, as
suggested by Susan this past April --

This newbie post is in regard to the Dorothea Scott who married Daniel
Gotherson. I have long been frustrated with what I see as an
impossible or highly improbable chronology that shows Dorothy Scott's
birth as 1611, given the range of her children's births as being in
the 1650's.

A number of on-line sites have listed her christening as 22 Sep 1611
and show her as the daughter of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull. The
information I currently have on the birth dates of the five children
from Dorothy Scott's marriage to Daniel Gotherson ranging from abt
1650 to 13 Jul 1661 have made me seriously question this birth date. A
birth date of 1611 would make her seven years older than her husband
and not having children until she was almost forty and continuing
until she was fifty. An earlier post on this site for the 1619
visitation of Scotts of Scott Hall do not show a daughter, Dorothea
from the marriage of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull, but does show
other daughters.

I found an extensive on-line site by Bruce Despain, concerning the
various Scott families.

http://userpages.burgoyne.com/bdespain/ ... ne-642.htm

that seems to have information that may correct her 1611 birth and
show her as grandchild of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull, daughter
of his son Thomas Scott and Judith Thomson with a christening of 30
Jan 1628/9 at St. Alphaege Canterbury.

This site also shows a burial for a Doryty (sic), dau of the elder Mr.
Thomas Scott on 19 May 1614. Mr. Despain's position is that earlier
books published in the late 1800's confused the aunt Dorothy who was
born in 1611 with her niece baptised in 1628/9. If it is the aunt
Dorothy Scott born in 1611 and buried 19 May 1614, then it makes sense
that the visitation of 1619 would not show a living Dorothy Scott.

Mr. Despain shows the marriage of Thomas Scott the son to Judith
Thomson, daughter of Henry Thomson and Dorothy Honywood as 5 Oct 1626
Lenham, Kent, England. I have also seen a number of on-line sites that
show the Thomas Scott who married Judith Thomson as dsp, but without a
reference that I can find. but I saw three children born to the
marriage Charles who was born and died 1627, buried 19 Dec 1627 St
Alphage, Kent, Dorothea Scott christened 30 Jan 1628/9 and a Thomas
Scott born in May of 1632 a few months after his father's death in Jan
of 1632, but this posthumous son only living a few years (buried 12
Jan 1635/6 St. Alphage, Kent). This Dorothea Scott who married Major
Daniel Gotherson on 24 Jun 1649/50 St Bartholomew-the-Less, London,
England and then having at least five children in the 1650's. This
would all seem to make the chronology and inheritance of Egerton
property make much more sense. Could any of those with interest in the
Scott family please comment on this? Has Mr. Despain provided
sufficient information that would correct the earlier birth date and
parentage for Dorothea Scott Gotherson? Mr. Despain kindly gave me
permission to include this information from his site for this post.
