Botelers of Ireland: The first Generations Part I Addendum

Good Evening,
I have found the data on Theobald Walters Ist marriage, or at least to
whom his first daughter Beatrice was married to: Carte pp.XII-XIV,
plea roll 295-6,Plac. 24 Ed. I, m.68. In the year 1204 she was married
to Hugh Purcell son of Sir Hugh Purcell of Ireland and castle Loughmoe
was part of her dower

This is of interest as Theobald Walters maternal grandmother, Maud
Valoignes/Valoines, wife of Theobald Valoignes, was Thomas Becketts
sister, Archbishop of Cantebury. It has been been reasoned by some
that it was not just because of the influence of Ranulph de Glanville,
Hubert Walters uncle, Chief Justicar of England, that Hubert Walter
became Archbishop of Cantebury after his great Uncle (Thomas Beckett)
two positions later, or Theobald Walter, who one would suspect would
be with Richard Strongbow E. of Pembroke, fighting in Ireland in
1171, the same time Thomas Beckett is assassinated, but rather
curiously Theobald Walter is in Normandy with King Henry and from
there word of Becketts death, Henry and Theobald go to Ireland where
he is given lands, more due to guilt? and payoff? rather than
immediately back to England???!!
It is also of interest that one of the four men implicated in Becketts
death Randulph/Robert de Broc,(his father was Purcell but he took his
mothers name) is also a cousin of Hugh Purcell, now husband of
Theobalds' daughter, Beatrice. I have always found it of interest that
both Hubert Walter and Theobald are dead within months or less
depending on the account and the same year 1205, when John is
immediately appraised of it shouts that "at last I can be King of
England" I smell something fishy, perhaps!!
Best Regards,
Emmet L. Butler
