Passenger List - Trieste, Ftt

Looking at the passenger list for my cousin 1955, it list him being born in
Trieste, Ftt. Now I know Trieste is in Italy, but What does "Ftt" stand for. It
just seems like an odd abbreviation for Italy. What am I missing? I do not know
what the abbreviation should be, just pondering.

Thanks
Chris

Apparently FTT refers to the Free Territory of Trieste. From wikipedia:

"In 1947, Trieste became an independent state as the Free Territory of
Trieste and was governed for several years by the Allied Military
Government, comprising American and (mainly) British forces headed by
Sir Terence Airey. This state was de facto dissolved in 1954: the city
of Trieste, dubbed Zone A, went to Italy, while the southern part of the
territory (Zone B), comprising Istria and some parts of the Karst went
to Yugoslavia. The annexation to Italy was officially proclaimed on
October 26 of that year.

The border questions with Yugoslavia and the status of the ethnic
minorities were settled definitively in 1975 with the Treaty of Osimo."

Thank you for the info. I did make a mistake. It was 1952 not 1955. My uncle was

station there while he was in the army.

Thanks again
Chris
