Bastards of Louix XV

Any link for a list of bastards from French king Louis XV ?
There is none in Pere Anselme, but a lot for Louis XIV. Likely
Pere Anselme was too close (in chronology) to Louis XV to dig any
bastard...

Posted too fast !

I am particularly interessed in bastard by a Fremont woman and
any noble De Caraffe. One Jean Baptiste de Caraffe is said to be
a bastard son of Louis XV and emigrant (arrived in Quebec around
1790) but this is based on what said a daughter when dying to a
priest, so many years later.

This is one case where the DNA testing for y-chromosome markers could
immediately determine if the story has any basis in fact or not. Louis
XV was a complex bag of contradictions. It is true he only recognized
one of his illegitimate offspring during his life time, but it is
equally true that he was benignly interested in the welfare of his
perhaps too-numerous-to-keep-up-with offspring. He, himself, however,
is unlikely to have known the exact number, though after his death
Louis XVI made an honest attempt to identify everyone and ennoble
those that did not already have a noble title of some sort through
their putative fathers. Being both religious as well as a bit prudish,
Louis XVI's letters of ennoblement did not mention parentage, only
that the person concerned descended from the noblest blood of the
kingdom, which, of course, was a code for Louis XV. It would not be at
all surprising if there were those not caught by the net Louis XVI
cast or, being an illegitimate child of one of the earlier
illegitimate offspring of Louis XV, would not have been considered.

There are many men alive nearly related to Louis XV both in legitimate
as well as illegitimate lines of descent in the male line. Surely, one
or more could be located for testing (though admittedly with some
effort) and would be willing to undergo testing for the light it might
ultimately help shed later on various aspects of French, Spanish and
Italian history. (I can think of at least a half dozen very intriguing
places where it could help immensely.) - Hikaru
