A Passing

Legg inn av Robert Melson » 04 des 2007 08:27:49

I just learned that Bob Heiling, a long-time participant
in and contributor to this and other genealogy newsgroups,
passed away in June, having lost his fight with cancer.
I don't know how many of you knew of this, but thought I'd
share the news.

I can't claim that Bob and I were close, or even friends -
we seemed more often than not to be on opposite sides of
the issue of the day - but his was a generally helpful and
informative presence on these groups. As my correspondent
said, "he was good people". I'm sure he'll be missed.

Sad Ol' Bob

I am very, very sorry to hear this sad news. Bob was a great guy and,
along with many others, helped a great deal with my search for Dear
Cousin Albert, even hosting the collected information on his site
which is still up. He is missed.

My condolences to his family

RIP Bob.

Yes, I heard last weekend.
It's hard to imagine the genealogy groups without Bob - he provided me with
help on several occaisions, and his messages were always worth reading, even
when I was disagreeing with him!

Yes, I too just heard. I had missed him but then he
frequently disappeared for a while and came back. I'm sorry
he won't be back this time.

He was a great help to a great many people, myself included.

RIP.

Thank you so much for posting this news. I hadn't heard that he was
ill, and this took me totally by surprise. He was always helpful to me,
and I wish the best for his family.

I always enjoyed reading his replies to peoples' posts, regardless of
whether I had any interest in the subject. You're right. Bob will indeed
be missed here.

Thank you, Sad Ol' Bob, for the information on Bob Heiling.

I wondered why I hadn't seen him post in a while, but figured he was busy
with something else. And I guess he was - trying to survive.

Bob, if you can catch this out there in the heavens, be sure to know you
will be missed here.

My condolences and prayers go out to his family and to his "internet
family."
