Just a quick question...
Having never done this before, I see that with the SSDI there's a
letter I can print up and pay $27 for some information. I've read this
is the information provided when the subject filled out an application
for a SSN.
I've never applied for an SSN since I'm not in the US, so I don't know
what information that would be.
Can anyone tell me what sorts of things I'd find out by requesting
this document? Do you find the information to be of much help?
Thanks in advance,
S.

Just a note, the information may not be complete. For example, if the
person immigrated at a young age and was separated from his/ her parents,
he/ she may not have known the names of the parents or the place of birth.
This has happened to me on several occassions. However, most times the SS5
application is a wonderful source it's just once in a while it can be
disappointing (especially after having waited several months to get it only
to see "unknown" written in the very place you wanted to see the mother's
maiden name).
Good luck!
