Genealogics Update: Browne of Beechworth gains a royal line

Here on Leo's great site
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 8&tree=LEO

we see that Henry "Harry" Belknap, Esq of Crofton, Kent who d 1488 and
who m Margarey Knollys. Henry is of royal descent, 9 steps to
Jerusalem

Leo is not showing, but DR, MCA shows a missing daughter Alice wife of
Sir William Shelley Knt of Justice of the Common Pleas d bef 10 May
1549

Alice (Belknap) Shelley's son John is called "of Michelgrove"

Turning to Burke's Extinct Baronetcies "Browne of Beechworth" we see
that Henry Browne of Beechworth Castle, father of that Sir Thomas
Browne recently discussed here (in another thread), has (Henry has)
for a wife one "Catherine Shelley dau of Sir William Shelley of
Michelgrove"

We know that Sir Thomas Browne must be born sometime in the range
1520/44 and his father Henry in the range 1489/1520, these dates are
limited by the better known life of Henry's father Sir Matthew Browne,
Sheriff of Surrey in 1496 and his wife Fridiswide Guldeford.

So allowing Catherine Shelley the presumptive birthrange of 1480/1530
we only find one William who could be her father, in that range which
would be that one, who was husband of Alice Belknap as above.

This would allow Catherine a royal ascent in 11 steps to Jerusalem.

Corrections and comments appreciated.

Dear Newsgroup ~

In reply to Will's comments, Katherine Shelley's connection to the
Belknap and Boteler families and thence back to Geoffrey Plantagenet
and other notables can be found in my books, Plantagenet Ancestry
(2004) and Magna Carta Ancestry (2005).

See the following weblinks for that information:

If anyone on the newsgroup is interested in obtaining a copy of either
of my books, they may do so by contacting me privately.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
