Help with finding immigration record
Hi all,
I'm trying to locate the immigration records of the following people:
Rossa De Counte - b Oct 1813 Italy (1900 US Census, Cook Cnty, Chicago Wd
13, Series T623 Roll 261 page 260 states she immigrated in 1883)
Rocco De Counte - b Sep 1855 Italy ( " he immigrated in 1886)
Salvator De Counte - b Apr 1877 Italy ( " he immigrated in 1887, he is also
the enumerator list on the page)
I am not sure what port they would have come through, but older relatives
that knew Salvator said he came through New York. I've looked through the
ancestry.com records and the castlegarden.com records without any luck.
Any suggestions on where to go would be extremely helpful.
Thanks,
Mike

Often the record you want is there, you just can't find it
using their search engine. Steve developed a better mousetrap.
You might also consider the possibility that they actually
entered Canada and crossed into the US from there. ... A
certain type of mind will drive through NY and say they came
through it ...
New Orleans is also a good suggestion, but as John Colletta
will tell you you may find your immigrant (like his) listed
as "several Italians". (g)

Re: Help with finding immigration record
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for the reminder about Steve Morse's website, but still no luck. I
have searched through the Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, New Orleans, and
New York immigration and port arrivals indexes without any luck. This side
of the family is being pretty difficult and was hoping someone might have
some ideas on what other publications, sites, references, etc that would be
available at the library or online that I could search through. Kind of a
"how to break through your immigrant brick wall" refresher.
Also, I went through some of the Canadian ships lists on
olivetreegenealogy.com site. No luck there either.
The difficult part is that with "De Counte", some sites include the "De" in
the last name and others don't. Very frustrating. (sigh)
Thanks again for everyone's input and assistance.
