This must have been a skirmish in the "singular case of Cogswell v.
Cogswell."

There is actually something to that description ("singular case"), as
documents from the case appear (1) in Old Norfolk County records (now
Rockingham County, NH); (2) among the bound volumes of the
Massachusetts Bay records; (3) in Essex County, Mass., records; and
(4) in Suffolk County, Mass., records (as quoted in Pat Hatcher's
recent Edmund Marshall article in the NEHGR).

I'm assuming the final outcome was pronounced many years later (1701)
in the Massachusetts Supreme Court of Judicature ...
