Cherepon

I am hoping someone may be able to help me track down these folks in the
1920 and 1910 census.
I have found in the 1930 census for Raritan, Middlesex, New Jersey
John Sagan 43
Anna Sagan 43
Joseph Sagan 4 3/12

Michael Cherepon 22
Anna Cherepon 21
Charles Cherepon 20
Verinica Cherepon 15
John Cherepon 13
Irene Cherepon 12
Emmet Cherepon 10
Victor Cherepon 8
Sophie Cherepon 7

The Cherepon children are all his step children. Anna shows 1909 as her year
of immigration, and the last 6 children list New Jersey as their place of
birth. Mr Cherepon is obviously still alive circa 1922 to have fathered
Sophie I assume. :))
I have not been able to find them in any other census. I have tried numerous
variations of Cherepon and still come up blank.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good Evening, Dennis...

Check the 1920 census for Raritan, Middlesex, New Jersey Roll T625_1057
Page 14B Enumeration District 59, Image 637.

Looks like the family name in 1920 was "Cserepanya" or "Cserepanja".
Family members Vasily, Annie, Mike, Annie, Charles, Veronica, John and
Irene. Hope that's your family in 1920. Checking 1910 next. Emmet,
Victor and Sophie not yet born.

Interesting - a change in name was exactly what flitted through my
head when I read the original post.

I have been helping a Jewish friend with her family history, and its
really complicated by that kind of thing for middle European surnames
(i.e. sometimes a "forced" change as they came through Ellis Island,
or a voluntary one at some time to make it easier to spell or
pronouce, avoid prejudice etc.Never mind the zillions of spelling
variations when you are dealing with the same name being written
totally differently in Yiddish, English, Polish, German etc. etc.
