Hi ,
I wonder which software is the best or most used for our hobby. I used
to use Family tree maker 2006 but want to switch to software that has the
possibility to create websites , cq output as HTM and must run under Windows
Vista.
I have investigate a few :
1. RootsMagic
2. The Master Genealogist
3. Legacy Family Tree
1 and 3 are a bit cheaper as number 2
and number 2 , version 6 , does not run under Vista ?
any opinions or suggestions ?
Which software ?

Look at phpGedView and The Next Generation and their
requirements.

why bother
export a gedcom and upload it to one of the many sites which will

worldconnect.rootsweb.com and genes eunied are the two I use
but all the TGN sites have this facility
tribal pages is very popular with its users
familysearch too
cq output as HTM and must run under
too bad you are stuck with that
Linux or WinXP or Mac OS are far better still
keep doing genealogy
don't waste your time as a webmaster creating a site which will be ignored
and which will be deleted when you stop paying

You'll get as many differing views as there are software packages as it is a
matter of personal taste and what one's needs are which helps to determine a
software choice. Personally I prefer The Master Genealogist over the other
two mentioned, although RootsMagic is good. I didn't care for Legacy
although many people do like it a lot.
As was mentioned, you can run TMG v. 6.12 on Vista. If you decide to go
with TMG, I would strongly recommend you look into a companion product,
Second Site, for web page generation. It reads TMG data directly and
produces outstanding sites. Just to give you an idea, one user has put
links to many of these sites on his web page. The flexibility of the program
in shown by the wide array of sites: http://winters-online.net/ss2websites/
Both TMG and SS have outstanding support.

I've used PAF (free from http://www.familysearch.org) and Legacy (which is
free unless you want to upgrade to the DeLuxe version).
I found PAF clumsy and not very user friendly but some people love it.
I much prefer Legacy because it's user friendly and does what I want.
