New ancestry.com interface

Legg inn av Gjest » 05 sep 2007 16:42:33

ancestry.com implemented a new interface last Thursday, which is an
incredible step backward:

- Execute a search, get a list of 50 names (of x,000) with details -
not the old list showing how many records matched the search in each
category

- Queries don't work properly. Search for a surname in a given census
state, records are retrieved from a seemingly random assortment of
states, again page x of x,000

- New unexplained 'x star' rating feature evidently gets rid of some
of the unwanted records, but at the expense of possibly losing what
you're looking for

It's a total mess. I sent an e-mail to them complaining; naturally no
response.

Evidently the logic is to have their computer 'do the work for you',
which as we all know doesn't work in geneology - you have to have
those personal moments of inspiration on an alternate or misspelling,
neighbor name connection, or whatever... now totally missing.

Unfortunately there seems no way to protest to them? Except suspending
the subscription?

I still get the categories. Try checking the box on the search window
that says "Exact matches only".
