1850 Census guide

I have been trying to reinvent the wheel 8>( For the longest time I could not
find a index of what roll held what information on the 1850 Census. Today I
found the following:

http://skyways.lib.ks.us/orgs/wgs/censu ... setts.html
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/orgs/wgs/census/ohio.html
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/orgs/wgs/census/virginia.html (also present day WV
counties)

I checked those three above. Mass. has 1800, 1810 1820, 1830, and 1850 rolls,
as well as others that are now indexed. Enter the state you want at the end for
your need. This may help narrow down the hunt.

If you know the NARA series number (the 1850 census is M432), NARA has a set of
pamphlets listing the contents of series, and those pamphlets are available
online in PDF format. I suggest using IE to get them, as parts of the NARA site
do not work well with Firefox.

Go to http://www.archives.gov/research/order/ ... ?microfilm and
click the "Use Our Microfilm Search" button, then on the next page choose
"Advanced Search" (to the right of the search button). Enter the publication
number in that field and click "Search." Click the line for any matching part of
that publication, and on the following page click "View Important Publication
Details" to see the NARA pamphlet for that publication.
