Vermont Census 1850

Legg inn av Camperken » 15 aug 2007 22:45:53

I am searching for on line an image of the 1850 Vermont census.
Specifically I am searching for Elezar Derusha and his wife Milla and
family. I was told that it was located on page 91 of the 1850 Census
of Alburgh VT.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many libraries provide access to Heritage Quest Online or Ancestry.com. Some
libraries with HQ Online allow home access by logging in with a library card
number.

Heritage Quest doesn't have images for the 1850 census.

While Heritage Quest doesn't have an INDEX for the 1850 census, it does indeed have the 1850 census.

You must have an idea of where the person you are seeking lived and browse, page by page.

Hello John,

1850 Census is not indexed on HQ. On HQ you have to use the find by page
feature to get the 1850 results. If my own record are correct Vermont covers
rolls 920-930. I looked at 920, 921, 922, 923, 924, 925, 926, 927, 928, 929, 930
/ pages 91 A and B did not see a likely candidate or the town listed, but I was
looking very quickly. Maybe an ancestry SKS will come to the rescue!

F.Y.I., in Ohio the link to search census records is
http://www.oplin.org/access.php?Id=67-22537&msg_ . You will need your library
card. That library must be on the list of associated libraries. Today, I had
to click on research records a 2nd time to get the list that shows HQ option,
among others.

Hello Tony,

Just curious, which Roll / page did you find it on? Did you find it on HQ or
Ancestry or other? Mike in Ohio

Ancestry cite is M432_924, page 45, Alburg, Grand Isle, VT. (91 is
handwritten on top of page, but handwritten numbers on preceding and
forwarding pages are not 90 and 92.)

Series: M432 Roll: 924 Page: 46 on HQ. You do need to know the county.

Hello John,

Tony found 1850. Do you have the possible 1860? Wife is still Milla, but his
name and age, children's ages and names are slightly different.

Surname Given Name Age Sex Race Birthplace State County Location Year

Another way is to use the AIS index for that year on CD-ROM to find the page
number, and the NARA pamphlet for that series to determine which reel(s) hold
that county, then enter the reel and page numbers in HQ.

Mike
Yep, I have the 1860 and have followed them forward. I am now trying
to work backward from 1850, and will now be concentrating on this area
of northern Vermont and southern Canada.

I plan to write to the libraries in this area to see if there is a
local genelogy group or other resources in the area. Any other
ideas?

Thanks to all who have responded to this query.

Instead of the time and cost sending letters to libraries, you could in
less time do an internet search on:

Have you tried the LDS IGI lately, new data is being put on there
regularly. I just had good luck with UK Census data. Worth a try.
