Roderick White, 1900-before 1906?

Legg inn av Gjest » 06 jul 2007 00:12:37

My great grandfather was married before my great grandmother. Thomas
Leitch White married Mary Carr in Greenock, Scotland, April 23, 1899.
In the 1901 census, they show up living in lodgings in Paisley,
Renfrew, Scotland, with a son Roderick, born Jan 1, 1900. Roderick
appears to have been named after Mary's father, Roderick Carr - her
mother was Mary O'Donnell. By April of 1906, Tom was married to my
great grandmother, Lizzie Brymner in Greenock, and the father of my
grandmother, Mary. Tom emigrated to Canada that year.

We suspect bigamy - to date we've found no evidence of a divorce. Mary
Carr, the first wife, seems to have separated from Tom and gone back
to live with her parents. She remarried in 1911, and described herself
as a spinster, not a divorce. We can only think that the son,
Roderick, died as a small child, as we can't find him after the census
- and that death might have been the final straw for a struggling
marriage.

Would anyone here have access to death listings for Scotland between
1901 and 1906 and be able to do a look up for me? They would have been
living in Greenock or Paisley, and there are various ways to spell
Roderick, which might be part of my problem. If the child had a middle
name, I don't know what it was.

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ gives (pay-per-view) access to the
Scottish Death Indexes 1855-1956.

ScotlandsPeople offers no matches for a death of:-

Rod* White (or Whyte)
registered 1901-1906
born 1900 +/- 1y

If Roderick survived and didn't (in Scotland) get married before 1932
or die before 1957 then you won't find him in the online indexes.
