Ancestry 1850 Census Update
In Ancestry.com's list of latest additions, they list the 1850 Census as
having been "updated". Does anyone have a clue as to what specifically has
been updated? I thought they already had complete images and an every-name
index for each state. As a researcher of a single surname, I don't relish
the thought of having to go back to re-search every state in the 1850 census
to see if there might be new additions if that's not what they mean by
"updated". I hate it when they do that "update!" thing but never indicate
what has been added.

Well, I don't know the official answer, but, I have sent ancestry.com 5
typos and spelling errors and one would hope that they include that in
an update. Also people find missing pages or pages that need to be
rescanned or photographed...etc... One would assume they also catch
their own mistakes, so maybe now that 1850 is updated, they will work
their way forward or back to other censuses. (^:

I've never tried. I figured Ancestry wouldn't bother about making database
corrections, minor or major, to their databases. As long as they can claim
they are merely offering databases they have been authorized to upload, the
onus is on the originator of the information to solicit corrections from the
public.
I believe you CAN make additions and corrections on their OneWorldTree site.
Maybe Hugh has had better results from his attempts to contact Ancestry with
corrections.
