Question about the the FHLC

Question about the the FHLC
I went to the local FHC several years ago, and recall going to a
catalog (on CD) which showed me their microfilm holdings (just the
microform index number).
I got the impression from GOOGLe results that same catalog was on line
at Familysearch.com. However, searching for 'Marriage' in 'Subject
Search", I don't see what I expected. I would expect to see at least
each state mentioned, probably breaking it down first by county, then
by year; but what I see is a list of 41 publications with interesting
names like "Cross-cousin marriages of Virginia".
I must be approaching the FHLC incorrectly, thinks I.
I notice it alludes to using the LOC subject headings, so I search and
find mention of the "Red Books", and the implication they are on-line
at http://catalog.loc.gov/ , which leads me to "the authorities" at
http://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pweb ... PAGE=First
Again, searching for "marriage" doesn't give me what I'm looking for.
Can someone please suggest how I should be using these sources to get
the correct subject heading for microfilm, NY, Marriage, 1933? - Mike

records or would I find that either index would take me to the same
records? Two ways of refering to the same thing? - MIke

Followed your suggestion and ended up with what I hoped were LOC

So I go back to authorities.loc.gov and entered "New York, Kings,
Brooklyn - Vital records" . Got a whole lot of records, but without
going thru 100 pages of records, I don't thinks we're looking at LOC
subject headings. Thoughts?
Second - If I can't input "New York, Kings, Brooklyn - Vital records"
into 'authorities.loc.gov' how do I use it? I think I was hoping it
would arm me with a film number with which I could approach the local

From the home page for familysearch.org, select "Library" tab
From that page, select "Family History Library Catalog" tab
Under the search options, select Place Search
Then search for Brooklyn, with New York for the 'Part of' field
You'll have a result for Brooklyn, Kings, New York. click on this
The next page will show all of the record categories that they have.
Select Vital Records
The next page will show all of their vital records categories
Select Marriage Certificates (Brooklyn, New York) 1866-1937
The next page will tell you all about this film series. At the upper
right hand corner of the page is a button "View Film Notes". Click here
You'll now see all of the film numbers, and what years each film covers.
Hope that helps,
Cathy

BTW I saw GSU filming parish registers of Wales starting in October 2006
