REQ: Lookup in NJ
Once again I am doing a request. It has been some time. I know that at
least one person on here takes me to task for doing so at intervals,
but I am hoping that a new person to this group may have different
search ideas or different contacting skills.
Name: Jonas Wharton Holmes
Born: Feb 12, 1862
Father: William Holmes
Mother: Anna Wharton Holmes
I am searching for a death date and place of death. I have searched,
and called and everything, to know avail. If somebody new has the
means I would be most appreciative.. TIA

Ignore that person. If you have been watching here for a while you will
see who the SKSs are and who the "don't even bother looking at the
response from" dip weeds are.
Several of the SKSs here can find lots of stuff I could not find. They
seem to have that special hunting ability. I just wish I was able to
reciprocate in a better fashion.

When some one takes you to task they are not helping you correct. Well
this newsgroup has many SKSs that will try their best to help you. Just
ignore that person who is taking you to task for asking for help /
opinions. That person is probably not a useful SKS.

Re: Lookup in NJ
Guess I'm a little show on the uptake...didn't realize at first that
you've been searching for Jonas thru the groups for a long time. I
googled the groups to see old messages and find that everything I find
on him has been covered before...sorry. The only thing I can add is a
couple of suggestions.
In the 1920 census, Jonas and wife Florence are together in Trenton. In
1930 census Florence is living with her mother and sister in Burlington,
and listed as divorced. I suggest you try to get a copy of Jonas and
Florence's divorce records from Mercer County or Burlington County. The
name of the woman that Jonas ran off with MIGHT be in Florence's
complaint for divorce. If nothing else, the divorce record would tell
you a time frame that Jonas left.
It was suggested earlier that you try to obtain death record for Jonas
from the State of New Jersey. If you haven't done that yet, it was an
excellent suggestion.
If Jonas "ran off" with someone, sounds like he left town maybe even the
state. If I were you, I believe that I would focus less on finding his
death info in Trenton. That is, unless you know that he returned there
before his death. Just a thought.
Happy hunting,
Tony

you a time frame that Jonas left.
Happy hunting,
Tony

I appreciate your efforts. Jonas is an elusive one... but all the
infor you put in here is the correct one. As far as I can ascertain,
Jonas died between 1933 and 1938 ..give or take. I may hit it lucky
one day and someone FROM Trenton will access this site and have the
means to check at City Hall. thanks again.

I appreciate the info you related, but it seems its the same info that
I have always been able to glean. The Holmes that died in Batavia, NY
is not the same line , as my mother in law as born in 1914 and Jonas
was married to his first wife then. I sincerely thank you.
