I have recently been doing an extensive search for my family and
have come up
with dead ends for my father's family.
His father's family: They were YAMPOLSKYs when they came from Russia
to
Wisconsin..Sometime before 1920, my great grandfather died and my
great grandmother Fanny moved the family to Philadelphia. The first
three children were born in Russia and the other four were born in
Wisconsin. I don't know my great grandfather's name...Later the last
name was changed to YAMPELL.
The daughters married and their names were: Bessie PILLET, Rose
DUBINSKI, Dorothy WOLOWITZ. The sons were Morris (Maurice), Lenis,
Sam
(my grandfather) and Max.
His mother's family: They were Wolowitz's and I really don't have
much
information there either.. His grandmother's name was Yetta and her
maiden name was ALEXANDER. We believe his grandfather's name was
Eleck(sp?). I think there were a total of 11 children but I think
only 8 made it to adulthood. -- **I have recently found some of the
information on my Wolowitz family but would like more if anyone can
supply me with it...Yetta and Elick came to the US in 1901...
I am also looking for anything about Samuel and Dora BUCHALTER and
their family--That is my maternal grandfather's family and I have
some
pieces of that. I also need information on Ester and Rubin Lessing--
that is my maternal grandmother's family and I have some pieces of
that as well.
I am 41 and live in NJ. I am the second of five grand children on
both sides, My Yampell grandparents have since passed away but my
Buchalter grandparents are still alive. I am doing this search to
put
together a family tree for my son who is now 16...
Any help would be appreciated tremendously!
Thanks!

It looks like your g-grandfather's name was Aaron, but the writing is a bit
iffy. I'm sending you a copy of the 1910 census from Wisconsin. The family
is enumerated as Jambolzki, again the writing is a bit rough. BTW, you'll
see that Lenis in 1920, should have been Lewis/Louis.

I found a Milwaukee, Wisconsin birth record for a Samuel Yampell on
October 2, 1906 (Reel 213, record 2031). I assume that's your
grandfather? You can order a copy from the Wisconsin Historical Society,
which should list your grandfather's father's name.
The surname was still fluid. From the 1910 Wisconsin census there's an
Aaron Jambolzki with wife Fannie, children Morritz, Lewis, a daughter
born about 1903 in Russia whose name I can't read (starts with an R),
Sam and Dora born in Wisconsin. Aaron emigrated in 1904, Fannie and
children in 1906. Aaron and Fannie were married around 1895. I think
this is likely your great-grandfather and his family.
The 1920 census shows Fanny in Philadelphia as a widow, surname
Yampolsky, same kids as in 1910 (girl with R name is Rose), plus the
addition of twins Max and Bertha, born in Wisconsin around 1911.
If you need images (the 1910 image is poor), let me know.
What state were the Wolowitz folks located in? Pennsylvania also? Can't
find them in the census but there's a social security death index for
Yetta Wolowitz, born in 1877, died in 1968. A death cert for her might
have more info about her parents' names and any surviving spouse.
Do you have a state for them? I see just a few Samuel Buchalter entries
for the 1900 - 1930 NY census but none with a spouse called Dora.
I also need information on Ester and Rubin Lessing--
In the 1910 census they're in Philadelphia, Rubin emigrated in 1903,
Esther in 1904, both Jewish and born in Austria, married just one year.
Rubin was born on April 25, 1885, according to his WWI registration.
In the 1920 census they have children Dorothy (born about 1912) and
Carl, almost two, plus Esther's mother Brane (probably Branya in the old
country) Distenfeld, born about 1860 in Austria.
Same family group in 1930, including Rubin's mother-in-law who is now
called Bertha Distenfeld and who has aged only five years since the last
census ten years earlier.
She emigrated in 1913.
Let me know if you need any images for these.
