My great grandfather Henrik Bietilæ built a house in Vadsø in 1910. The
family donated the house and its surrounding buildings to the people of
Vadsø for a museum covering the fishing industry of the area.. In 2003,
I received an email from someone in Vadsø stating that they hoped to
open the museum in the fall. I have tried to contact this person and/or
the museum again several times with no response. Is there anyone in the
area that could tell me the status of the museum?
TIA,
Pat in Nevada, USA

My Norwegian is very poor, do they have this in English? I have tried
the English links but no luck. I have tried to email at that address
and have gotten no response.
Thank you, Pat

Re: Bietilæ House - Vadsø, Norway
There is a link to the english pages (UK-flag) just below the "Gjestebok (Guestbook)", but these pages have nothing about the Bietilae-house. As I kan see of the norwegian pages the house is in use for some activities, but the fully restoration will be finished in 2007.
I have forwarded your request to the museum in Vadsø again, and hope you will get some information.
Best regards, Dagfinn

Re: Bietilæ House - Vadsø, Norway
This is a copy of the answer The Museum sent you 3rd of April 2006:
Q U O T E
VS: Restoration of the Bietilæ House?
Hello
It is nice and interesting to hear form you. The restoration has been going on since 1999. It has taken some time because the restoration authorities has given a yearly amount for the work, and therefore we work every year for the sum of money we get, and then we have to stop.
The museum in Vadsø took over the house from the state i 2003. Two and a half of the 4 outhouses are finsinshed + the quay and 2 of the 4 flats in the main house. Last year we opened a part of the estate to the public: 2 flats in the main house and one part of one of the outhouses.
What is left to do: 1 flat in the main house, the rest of the northern outhouse and the quay-house and the area around. WE don't know how much money we will get this year yet. But we hope to finish next year.
