Error Message in Legacy

Legg inn av Nicole Blythe » 09 jun 2006 17:34:30

When I try to preview a Pedigree Chart, I get a message stating "Error 13,
Type mismatch in Reports module". I can click ok and then all seems well,
but I wonder why I get this message. Can anyone help? I'm using Legacy 5.0
Delexue Edition.

Legacy is built on Microsoft Access database software. This is a problem
caused by some previous changes at the Microsoft end. The Legacy
programmers will need to fix some internal ambiguity between some
actions (DAO and ADO if you understand Access). I'm sure Sherry will get
onto your case... :-)

Nicole,

If you go to the Legacy Family Tree Technical Support site you will find
the following.

http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Help.asp

http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpError13.asp

"Please delete the contents of the C:\Windows\Temp folder and update
your Legacy program"

This should be your first resource for problems with Legacy as they can
answer almost any question you may have.

Disambiguitise....that's the word (?) I was trying to think of. Only in
the world of computers... :-)

Strangest one I ever encountered was while working at IBM, already notorious
for Blue-speak: one never, but NEVER, spoke of shutting down a machine.
Rather, one quiesced the machine. And how does one conjugate _that_ verb?
I quiesce, you quiesce, he/she quiesces? Drives me nuts to this day.

And I also found "disambiguate".

Thank you for that. I'll have a look there later because I keep
getting Run time errors, esp if I'm going back and forth to the
reports and/or checking data with online sources such as freebmd and,
particularly, 1837online.

Legacy have the best customer service I've come across in a long time
- and a help file that's actually helpful!! :)) Other firms could
learn a lot from Legacy (are you listening PlusNet??)

If I'm understanding the site properly, I need to purchase the upgrade to
Ver 6 to fix this problem. I'm currently using Ver 5 Deluxe and it appears
to me that if I download the fix for this problem, I'll get Ver 6 standard
and will lose my deluxe features I have in Ver 5. Is this correct?

It doesn't state you have to upgrade, just update. Have you done an on

line update yet?

You really should go to http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Help.asp and
seek help there. They are the experts. I would also subscribe to
LegacyUserGroup@LegacyFamilyTree.com. There is a lot of help to be had
there as well.

Good luck,
Gene

I agree with both your comments, Helen. Sherry is brilliant. She's
helped me out a couple of times.
