My G-Grandparents were from Sweden, but I have no clue who *their* parents
were, I also have NO idea how to search overseas.
I was once told if I didn't know what "Parish" they were from/born in, I was
*doomed"...is this true?
He is what I have been able to gather from ppl who have been so generous as
to help me from census' and such:
Axel R. Hjort b. May 12 or 15, 1869 in Sweden (mother & father both born in
Sweden also) d. 1933 in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida. USA.
Emigration dates vary
Axel married:
Selma M. (Monson or Munson? Munson would have been Månsson) b. Sep 18, 1872
in Sweden (mother & father also born in Sweden), d. 1945 (same burial info
as above).

Re: also searching 4 Grandparents
Hello Susan,
An answer from Sweden!
In census for 1890 I have found following about Axel:
Hjort, Axel Robert
Occupation: Sailor(seaman)
Born: May 16, 1869 in Konungsund parish, Östergötland county, Sweden
Unmarried man, living in Krokek parish, Östergötlands county, Sweden, but
without any home in Krokek parish, because he was a sailor.
And in census for 1900:
The same as above, but with a note: "He is not here and we don't know where
he is after 1891".
I think he was sailing and maybe stop in USA.
And in another parish book about family in Krokek (AI:15 page 10) I have
found Axels Roberts parents and sibblings.
In the place Fagervik, Krokek parish, Östergötlands county, Sweden:
Father: Worker Axel Hjort born July 8, 1838 in Konungsund parish,
Östergötlands
county, Sweden,
died July 16, 1880 in Fagervik, Krokek parish, Östergötlands county, Sweden.
Mother: Wife Björn, Johanna Lovisa born June 16, 1838 in Kila parish,
Södermanlands
county, Sweden,
died March 23, 1880 in Fagervik, Krokek parish, Östergötlands county,
Sweden.
They married 1860 I don't know where.
Children:
Daughter Johanna Maria born April 25, 1860 in ?.
Daughter Hilda Charlotta born November 11, 1863 in Konungsund parish,
Östergötlands county, Sweden.
Daughter Sofia Ulrika born December 16, 1866 as above.
Son Axel Robert born May 12, 1869 as above.
Daughter Elin Mathilda born January 14, 1874 as above.
Son Johan Bernhard born April 5, 1876 as above.
The children was missing their parents 1880, must be hard for them.
This family is not relatives to me.
In Sweden we have a website in English http://www.genealogi.se/roots/ there
most people in Sweden ask for information about relatives. Many people from
foreign
countries write in English and have the answer in English. You could ask
there for more information
about your relatives or help with the research.
And I wish you a good luck!
