Installing Legacy on alternate drive - Sherry where are you?

Legg inn av Helen Castle » 5. mai 2006 kl. 9.22

I have had a 32011 error on Legacy when I try and save to notes on an
individual.

So I read the errors page and decided to follow the 12 steps in repairing
Legacy from beginning to end.
After many years a clean and new install wouldnt hurt.

I am now stuck at installing the newly downloaded file

I have alway run Legacy on my F:\drive (F=Family)

I do not get the option to choose which drive to install it on

Has anyone else had this problem - it has nothing to do with Deluxe or not
as you cant register the program and unlock it until you install it.

Since Legacy 2 I have run it off F:\ cant understand why you cant now

I have run the install program 3 or 4 times - I also never received the
password email to any of my email addresses and wondered if using a password
from ages ago is causing this.

Here is an excerpt from the Legacy mail archives that will help you set

up to any drive you choose. You should subscribe to the Legacy list.
There is a wealth of help available there.

Legacy v6 is designed to overwrite pre-existing installations of
Legacy. you need to rename the Legacy6Setup.exe file to LegacyNew.exe

(case sensitive) before you do the installation. *Then* you'll get the
window to give you the option for installation path.
Thanks for using Legacy.

thanks to Paul and Gene I have sort of worked out my problem

apparently there is some sort of registry entries making it do so

However I have never installed on C:\ - EVER - at least on this or two
previous HDDs - so no idea why it is installing on C:\

Now it has installed on c:\ automatically I have further corrupted the
registry entries so sound like a good reason to format c:\ and get rid of a
few other problems I have

It isnt as drastic as it sounds - I can format c:\ and be back up and
running within 1 hour - just takes a while to remember all the extraneous
programs I use.

Helen,

I see you sent an email to Legacy support. I'll answer you there in
full, but briefly, when you uninstall Legacy and rename the setup file
to LegacyNew.exe to redirect to a different drive, you need to make
sure that you completely remove the Legacy folder from the C:\Drive.
Legacy looks there first for the updates and if there is a Legacy
folder, it will update that folder.

No need to reformat your drive!

Hmmmm....yes, but that doesn't seem to have worked for Helen. There is
something else - I had to edit the registry to get it to install
somewhere else for me. Maybe time to relook at how this could be more
user-friendly...not everyone is brave enough to reformat their main
drive! :-)

Thanks heaps - I got the other email

Will see how I go with the other problems before I decide to reformat.

Hubby's laptop needs a rebuild more than my machine - it only takes about 6
months for all the crap installed by Yahoo, Google and Messenger to slow it
down to a snails pace.

But he does like to pay those games so you pay the price.

That's why he doesnt use my machine any more
