Legacy Birthday reminder

Legg inn av Kaye Payne » 19 jan 2006 00:14:13

Hi All,

I am really appreciating the birthday reminder in the Legacy program, it
seemed that I was doing all the family tree work and was the only one
forgetting birthdays - but not anymore. Thanks to some help from people on
this newsgroup my computer opens immediately on to Legacy and the birthdays
pop up in front of me. Only one last question, if someone might know, the
women's names open under their maiden name and although this is quite
acceptable can I change this to their married name under the preferences? I
have tried to see if there is a possible change but cannot.

Cheers

Kaye:

I think it's been pointed out before that Legacy doesn't know about
married ladies' names. The setup is that the files are built as
individuals (M or F) with their birth names, and some get "connected" in
a marriage list. But the system only knows the people in the married
list by their individual names. A shortcoming in Legacy that should be
fixed.

I have seen people overcome this supposed shortcoming by adding the married
name as AKA and then selected it as the preferred name.

Sue Smith
AKA Mrs John Long
AKA Sue Long
AKA Mrs Long

It's do-able but that doesnt mean I like it.

Hi to you both,

Thanks once again for the advice. It would be more acceptable if you could
click on the name and go straight to the family view with the person's
family as one opening up instead of just the person's name. Some people
really like to be listed under their maiden name so I guess you cannot
please everyone.

Thanks again

It's not only Legacy. FTM/FTW has the ability to show you married names,
then mis-sorts them in the Index of Individuals. Doh!
