http://www.onegreatfamily.com/genealogy/Lapham.html

638 names of the LAPHAM genealogy are in the One Great Family Tree.

http://wc.rootsweb.com/
More than 385 million names on file

13970 Lapham

I have not tried ogf but why pay for something
when there is a site which is free and bigger

googled
about 5 from http://www.onegreatfamily.com for lapham
about 791 from wc.rootsweb.com for lapham

google enters world connect via my links

about 5,540 from wc.rootsweb.com for smith
about 1,150 from onegreatfamily.com for smith

so no ogf for me

I've used it for about 18 months now. When I first started using it I
thought it was great. I got regular email updates from OGF about
matches against names in my tree and tips on usage.

After about 6 months of usage these emails pretty much stopped. I've
had no emails or updates from OGF since. I've begun to wonder if it is
still actively maintained.

On the positive side it helped with the beginning of my research. I got
lots of matches and I was able to use those matches for further
research to confirm them. It definitely added a lot for me. I quite
like the user interface and method of viewing and adding to the online
tree.

OGF tries to match all users records and keep one unique copy of each
individual. If there are possible matches or conflicts you get the
chance to 'collaborate' with the other match. I have never ever had an
email reply from people I tried to contact about these matches from
OGF. I can only assume people sign up, or use the trial, upload there
data then no longer actively use it. This makes it very hard to fix
problems with data.

Do I think it's worth the subscription? I still use it so I guess so.
But that's more because I've already invested time and energy into it I
suspect. I probably wouldn't sign up now given the other great services
out there. I have to admit, I do like the concept of 'one record' for
an individual with merges and notifications of changes being broadcast
to interested parties. If OGF were more 'visible' with their regular
confirmations on matches, updates to the service, etc I'd probably be
more positive.

My main usage for it now is hoping for matches in some of my dead-end
research lines.

Chris.
