FTM 2005 Deleting all Ancestors
I merged a whole tree of ancestors of one individual.
I now find this was incorrect.
Is there any way to delete all ancestors of a given
individual.

From the Help file
To delete a group of individuals:
1. Create a report, Ancestor tree, Descendant tree, or Outline
Descendant tree containing the group of individuals that you want to delete.
2. Look through the document to make sure that it contains the correct
set of individuals.
Note: Don't worry about what information appears in the document,
because all information associated with the individuals in the document
will be deleted.
3. From the People menu, select Delete Individuals (ALT, P, D). A
confirmation dialog box appears. Click Yes. Family Tree Maker deletes
the individuals.

I suggest you try it first on a copy of your file, as it's easy to go
wrong the first time you do it.

Well, you can always generate an ancestor tree
<View - Ancestor Tree - standard>
then with this tree showing, click
<People - Delete Individuals in Ancestor Tree>
Then re-enter the individual for whom the tree was generated.

Yeah, that'll happen. Repeatedly. Get used to it.
Probably, but don't. Keep it, with a note of "I thought this was mine
and it's not". Save the next guy (your great-grandkid or whomever) the
pain of doing exactly the same thing. "These people look like ours but
they aren't" is nearly as valuable as "these people are ours". Also,
I've made the day of two researchers by sending them a "not-mine" that I
had researched in error, and kept anyway.

That'a a good suggestion. I suggest, however, disconnecting them
from the main tree. Disconnect them from the individual they
are not really ancestors of, and create a new person, with
a name like Wrong Smith, to connect them to, who is of course
unconnected to the main tree. Explain in his notes what happened.
Of course, if the bad tree has 11,783 individuals, you might
want to copy you file, remove the bad ones from the main file,
and keep the "bad ones" only in a separate file. This would normally be
done by exporting all the ancestors of "Wrong Smith" to a new file.

I've got NOTOURS as the male ancestor of about 188 people who
emphatically cannot be descendants of the man on whom the file is based.
And I've got ?OURS? as the male ancestor of another 150 folks on whom I
don't have enough info to know either way.

Paul's fix worked just fine.
I have the original GEDCOM I'd imported. Nothing wrong with
that - it is a well researched, documented and sourced
pedigree back to 12c (a very well known family)
The problem was that the person from my file I attached it
to was incorrect. Fortunately was a very peripheral line.
As was suggested I'll keep the offending GEDCOM and I've put
a note on the "link individual' explaining the mistake to
discourage any future researcher from repeating my error.
