I have been asked what program will open "Family Origin files" (i think
this program was the earlier version of FTM program?) c1996 /1997 pfx
files ?? they have the backup file but no starter disc.

I have both ver 6 & 8 demo versions, limited to 50? people. It wasn't a
predecessor of FTM, but TMG can read those if you're talking about the
..fow files (hard to tell) or .zip, which apparently was the extension
for the backups.

people there are very good and the owner/programmer reads the group.

It should do the job. A 30 day free-trial uncrippled full version is
available for the download. From there on it's a simple matter to Import
the FOW file and Export as Gedcom. I guess they hope you'll take an even
further interest in it and who knows?

Of course, Family Origins will open a Family Origins file, either a
database or a backup (zipped database). Also the latest version of
RootsMagic will also import either a FO database or backup file.
