It seems to me I heard somewhere that LocalBlack wrote in article
<1132592787.768177.156440@z14g2000cwz.googlegroups.com>:
Does anyone have experience or relevant information about this source?
Most of what I located in Google was on other topics and shed no light
on the reliability of the company or the original source and provenance
of the offered data. There are a few items I would be interested in but
I want to proceed with caution. TIA

I gather, then, that you have neither experience nor information for me,
unless you know for a fact that it really is spam. There appears to be
a rather large organization engaged in legitimate socio-political
enterprises behind this advertising, but nothing to indicate legitimacy
or expertise in genealogy. That's why I inquired.

available. Purchase of the same records on a CD in order to save the
time/trouble of downloading seems reasonable to me. I see nothing on
the Texas site that says it isn't perfectly legal to do what he's

am considering ordering a set of records from California... I
downloaded the Texas records a few years ago when they were all
avaliable. But I know from my experience with the Texas records, that
it's a "huge" amount of data, and you really need to be set up to
handle large files if you go this route.I converted my Texas data into
Access files... I now have 14 separate files ranging from 69 MB to
nearly 500 MB in size.

Thanks, Charlie, especially for the heads up about the size of the
files. I'll ponder the situation for a while before doing anything.
Aside: I know unsolicited advertising is technically spam, but not
every spam message implies fraud or shoddy merchandise.

True, but asking a straightforward question is not yet a crime under the
