Re: Christian Johnson
What is your source for the village and county: "Polisound, Javlov"? There
seem to be spelling problems with both of those. Javlov isn't one of today's
counties in Denmark and the name doesn't sound very Danish. There is the
southern geographic region that was contested between Germany & Denmark, but I
think we need to look for different spellings and knowing the source would help
in determining what sort of errors might have been made.

Hi guys... here is one of your Danish friends to help.
Polisound, Javlov does NOT sound Danish... nor even rings a bell, even
taking into consideration,
that a lot of Scandinavian origins were spelled "soundex-wise" after a few
years "over there..."
As you write, none of the districts in Denmark is even remotely close to
Javlov...
Some of the cities here ends with "....sund", e.g. Frederikssund, Hadsund
etc. etc indeed, but no city starts with "Polis..:"
Any other suggestions ?
Kind regards,

This is exactly right. Jens is the danish name for John? Thanks so much for
this. Long ago one of my great distant uncles, whom was a son to Christian
Jensen had hired someone to do work on the Johnson Family. I had found out
later that person who did the work did not do a successful job at it, so I
am trying to fix the problem and trace back on Jens Brandt Koch and Anne
Christensen's ancestorial line. Christian is my great-great Grandfather on
my father's father's mother side of the family.

Scripsit A Bennett:
I believe so. The biblical form in Danish is Johannes, but more often
John, Johs, Johan and (maybe) Jens is used. Jens is extremely common
in Danish. The previously posted record said the parents lived in
Studsdal and the father was a boarder (lejehusmand).
Here are some more things. The census record for Taulov 1860:
http://www.bryld.suite.dk/taulov2.tiff
Hard to read, but I see Jens Brandt Koch age 26 born in Fredericia,
his wife Ane Christensen age 29 born in Freide(??) S. (Sogn=Parish),
Hans J?? Jensen age 5 born in Nørup S. and Christian Jensen age 3 born
in Taulov S.
Now looking at Trinity Church in the city of Fredericia for 1834 i
found:
http://www.bryld.suite.dk/jenskoch.tiff
Jens Brandt Koch born 21 Nov 1833 Bapt 25 Dec 1833 in the church,
under parents: Mother Marie Susanne Dupont ?? Jens Brand Koch i Greis,
then something I can't really read in Gothic Cursive, and as
godparents a lot of Duponts.
Don't take my word for it, but I get the feeling he was born out of
wedlock.
Hope you can use these as starting points - if you present these pages
to someone more handwriting literate than me, you should be off to a
good start.

On Familysearch can be found a Marie Susanne Dupont born 25 Aug 1812 in

Dead 29 Jul 1859 in Taulov. And she has a younger sister, Olympe Dupont born
18 Jun 1814, dead 21 Jun 1899.
Familysearch also says that this Marie Susanne Dupont was married on 11 Dec
1832 to Jacob Feut born 30 Oct 1807 in Fredericia. But in the Fredericia
1834 census there are only two Jacob Feuts, father and son. The father is 54
years old and married to Cathrine Hermann and the son is unmarried!!, 27

The name Dupont is of French origin.
Before the first Danish constitution in 1849 there was no freedom of
religion in Denmark. It was only in a few towns - among them Fredericia -
that people were allowed to live without beeing members of the Danish
Lutheran Church. In Fredericia there was - and still are - meny members of
the Reformed Church. Fredericia also had a synagog.
In 1685 the French king repealed the Edict of Nantes which had allowed the
huguenots (members of the Reformed Church) to live in a number of secure
cities in France. The persecution of the huguenots that followed led many to
take refuge in the electorate Brandenburg, Germany. In the 1720's The Danish
king Frederik IV invited a number of huguenot families from Brandenburg to
settle in Fredecicia. The above Duponts and Hermanns are probably
descendents of those families.

This is exactly right. Jens is the danish name for John?
Jens Brand Koch i Greis,
then something I can't really read in Gothic Cursive,
uden Ægteskab [without marriage]
and as
godparents a lot of Duponts.
Sponsors:
- Mademoiselle Olempe Bichi Dupont [in the 1834 Fredericia census there is
an Olempe Dupont, 19 years, daugther of Mathias Dupont, a day-labourer
living no 64 Kongensgade]
- Skolelærer [teacher] Peter Dupont
- Schach Dupont
- Schach Hermann
her i byen [in this town]
Don't take my word for it, but I get the feeling he was born out of
wedlock.
Mother and child can be found in the 1834 census in Fredericia, and she is
NOT married:

Peter Dupont was one of the godparents.
Acording to the 1834 census Marie Susanne Dupont was born around 1813.
On Familysearch can be found a Marie Susanne Dupont born 25 Aug 1812 in
Fredericia as the daughter of Francois Dupont and Cathrine Vilain Dupont.
The father is 54
years old and married to Cathrine Hermann and the son is unmarried!!, 27
years old (born ca 1807).
