I will be doing a presentation at a genealogy conference in July in Las

Non-Traditional Family Relationships: Issues of Privacy &
Confidentiality in Constructing a Genealogical Tree
My initial aim in this presentation was to discuss adopted persons and
those people born through Assisted Reproduction techniques. However, I
have received 2 e-mails inquiring about gay and lesbian parents, and
whether there is any software that accommodates 2 mothers or 2 fathers.
Does anyone on this list know of genealogy software that allows for this
configuration?

[email protected]At this point in history there is NO WAY for a person to be born
without BOTH parents contributing, at the very least, their DNA.
Therefore your question is more about the way each program handles who
the child is living with, not who the parents were. Lots of my
ancestors are unknown. That does not mean they did not exist, as in
the case of your gay and lesbian relationships, one or both of the
"parents" is not REALLY the biological parent. A male and a female
are REQUIRED to make a child. Either or both may be unknown, BUT a
child MUST have both. Sooo, your question is better served by asking
whether a person can be living with the same or different sex
individuals. In the case of TMG the answer is yes.
Your question could also involve whether the program allows for same
sex marriages. Again I believe that TMG does.
