DOS Export

Legg inn av Ron O'Neill » 4. februar 2005 kl. 14.17

Received a file from an unknown family history program.

It's called DOSexport. It wont open in any program I've got and I've got a
lot of FH programs, I'm getting the windows icon for the file which
evidently means I have not got the program to open it, any ideas as to how
to open it. I renamed it as a gedcom file but it still won't open.

Ron

can you go back to the person and ask what program they used?

Have you tried opening it from Notepad or Wordpad and seeing what is in the
file?

Not until a few weeks time, they are away.

Have you tried opening it from Notepad or WordPad and seeing what is in

I've tried opening in text editing programs but they don't read it
correctly, it shows up as squares and things not anything like a gedcom
file.

Thanks

Then it's probably a compressed file or possibly an executable. I can't
recall if you mentioned the filename including the extension?

Sorted out now thanks to a friend.

It turns out that the file was a back up file created using GSP version 1.
You cannot open these files with GSP version 2 which I have as they changed
the file format in-between versions. Daft program developers.

what operating system have you got on your system.

I may be able to solve you problem but if you have windows before xp
there is a programme on your system that is hidden.

If you have xp on your system look for c\: prompt this can be found on your
start up menu.

come back to me and I will direct you from there.

Other wise send me the file.
