Format for logic statements in searches

Where can I learn the format for logic statements for the Search box?

For example, I wanted to find references to Peter or Petter Larsen in either Stange or Ringsaker.

I entered the logic statement Pet* AND Lars* AND (Stange OR Ringsaker), but I got 1132 finds.

I have obviously made a mistake, since the Stange forum only has 16 messages of interest, and Ringsaker has 15.

I found the answer to my question, and thought that I should share it in case it is helpful to others.

I wanted to find references to Peter or Petter Larsen in either Stange or Ringsaker.

I had used the logic statement of Pet* AND Lars* AND (Stange OR Ringsaker), but got 1132 finds.

But, by reversing the order of things a bit to (Stange OR Ringsaker) AND Pet* AND Lars*, there were only 31 finds and a test showed that they met the criteria.
