Stomp

Legg inn av gj10647 » 25 aug 2016 20:17:09

I have a question regarding a word written in a letter from an emigrant from Nissedalen: He is writing back to his family in 1850 about what to bring on the voyage: Flatbrød er det beste at alt. Stomp holder sig god 14 dage. What is Stomp?

I know this is not genealogy but related.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi.
Stonp is a thick "Lefse", made of wheat flour, thick sour milk, sugar and baking soda. Baked in 12 cm pices om å varm backing plate.

It seems that the word 'stomp' means different types of bread in different parts of Norway.

That is exactly the same as our description i Vesterålen (Nothern Norway)
