Between a death in my family and Christmas, I've only just realized this morning that I'd lost my subscription to this list, so I've been going through the archives of the past couple of weeks and found this thread on St. Anthony of Padua.

I can't really add anything concrete to the discussion, but I was intrigued as this relationship between St. Anthony of Padua and Godfrey of Bouillon is one that was passed down in the oral history of some of my ancestors (a Bouillon family) for over 200 years. As far as I know, no one has been able to trace the family past a Sebastien Bouillon who married Elisabeth Nauroy on 30-Oct-1681 in Noveant-sur-Moselle.

Another part of this oral history claims that the Bouillons were (of course) somehow connected to the Ducs de Bouillon of the de la Tour d'Auvergne family -- which is only of interest in light of the fact that in at least some biographies of Catherine de Medici I've found that that her mother's family, the de la Tour d'Auvergnes, apparently claimed to be related to St. Anthony of Padua and descended from Godfrey de Bouillon...

Dear Jeffery,

The point is: there are no extant documents to justify
the Bouillon/St Anthony connection. And from what we
know he was of exclusively Portuguese stock.

Jeff do you have a copy of this marriage document or contract of marriage?
Typically the marriage records from this time period (France, Catholic) lists
all four parents, or the previous spouse of a previously married person. At
least my experience is that they do.
