Pelham - de Courcy

Legg inn av John P. DuLong » 28 des 2004 01:26:35

Hello All,

I realize this is long shot, but here goes.

Anyone out there know the parents of Joan de Courcy, born in Normandy,
the servant of Queen Catherine, the wife of Henry V? She was married to
Sir John Pelham of Laughton, Chamberlain of Queen Catherine's household.

I just checked ES and found nothing.

Any clues would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

JP

JP,

You picked a tough one! I don't have the book, but where it might be
found is in "Sussex Genealogies" by John Comber, 1931 edition. This is
referred to in Weis "Magna Charta Sureties, 1215" line 8A-14. Weis also
mentions as a source the "Collectanea Topographica et Genealogica" vol
3, pp 204-205, published 1836, which, incidentally, is available at
http://www.abebooks.com for $169.02. This is only for volume III, however.

When I posted the message I should have included the source of my data,
which turns out to be Comber's _Sussex Genealogies_. A very helpful
work, but it has nothing to offer about Joan de Courcy other than that
she was born in Normandy and was a servant of Queen Catherine.

Seems I recall a de Courcy family of Normans active in Ireland too, but
Joan, being born in Normandy, would have to be very distantly related to
the family that went to Ireland.
