The Martinengos had as "capostipite" a certain Teobaldo, a favourite of
emperor Otto I, who made him his vicar, and in 953 gave him 15 castles
in the Bresciano (the territory around Brescia). There a certain
Leonardo, nephew of Teobaldo, ruled the Martinengo castle. This family,
lords of Brescia and Ventimiglia, was added to the Venetian patriciate
in four occassions.
The first one was in 1448 Antonio q. Zuane, condottiero of the Republic
in the war against Milan. The second was Giacomo q. Marco in 1449, also
a condottiero at that war. The third one was Z. Maria q. Francesco in
1499, who in the battle of Ghiara d'Adda was wounded fighting under the
flag of St Marck. The fourth finally was Z. Batt. q. Federico who, with
his brother Paolo, offered in 1689 100 thousand ducati to the Republic
during the war of Candia.
There were other famous warriors among the Martinengo, especially among
the non-patrician lines of the family.
The family had its "palazzo" at SS. Ermagora e Fortunato in Canal
Grande, next to Palazzo Griti. Palazzo Martinengo, which used to be of
the Memmo family, was sold by the Martinengos in 1886 to cav. Luigi
Mandelli.

Martinengos appear in Koblenz (Germany) in the 18th century until at
least middle of the 19th century (http://www.familysearch.org/).

Do you know if they have a connection with the Martinengos from Brescia,
knowing that there was seemingly a significant Swiss and Italian
immigation to the archbishopric of Koblenz at that time ?

Regards.
