Where to find a Marriage in the 1950's
I have just learnt that my grandmother's cousin Erika Marie ERIKSEN probably married Alf Amundsen ILBRAATEN in Oslo between 1949 and her death in June 1966. The marriage was most probably in the early 1950's. Erika was born 28 Sep 1891.
Is there a web site that I can search for this marriage?
Would there be a digistised newspaper site that I could search for a marriage announcement?
Thank you
Darryl

Hi!
Would need to know where erika was born, would make it much easier
But found an Alf Amundsen Ilbraaten here - could this be her spouse?

Hi
Is this Erika with her mother and sisters in the 1910 census (birthdate a bit wrong which is very common in this census):

Hi,
Vivi's Erikka (with a double k) is probably listed here as no. 148:
Kildeinformasjon: Oslo fylke, Sagene, Klokkerbok nr. 1 (1880-1891), Fødte og døpte 1891, side 242.

Darryl,
- How certain are you about your Erikka's (seems to be a double k here too) date of birth ?
- As to your suggestion about searching in digitalized newspaper archives, there is the major daily newspaper Aftenposten, published in Oslo. I'm not sure whether these archives are indexed, and if not, it would be a tremendous job searching through your suggested years. You'll have to register and pay to search here.
- Any further details, dates, names, places you can provide would most likely be helpful.
Re: Where to find a Marriage in the 1950's
Thank you all for your help, all the links that have been provided are all correct.
Erikka was born and baptised the same day in Sagene, 28 June 1891 according to the kirkebok. She must have been a sickly child to be baptised same day. However, the 1910 census and her grave information give a birth date of 28 Sep 1891 so I don't know what to make of the three months difference.
In the 1910 census she is with her mother (actually Hannah not Anna) and two of her aunts, Marie and Thora.
The Alf Ilbråten is indeed the right one as well, he and Erikka share a grave in Ullen Kirkegard where his date of birth is also recorded as 22 Nov 1894.
I think browsing years of newspaper announcements in the chance of find the wedding announcement is not really practical. I suspect it was between 1849 and 1955 but I have no proof.
Takk for all hjelp

Re: Where to find a Marriage in the 1950's
Hi again Darryl.
You should not trust a census too much, there are many faults in 1900, and the 1910 is full of faults. The church records - kirkebøker - are usually correct about birth dates, but I have personally had instances where an incorrect birth date written at confirmation, was carried forward in all later records, including censuses. I always use the birth date given in a kirkebok as a 'safe' option.

Re: Where to find a Marriage in the 1950's
Thanks Olaf. I'm still a bit puzzled as the birth register definately says June but it does seem to be out of sequence so perhaps the register is wrong. The census has September and I know all census data is liable to errors, but then the grave has September also.
I think its one of those minor differences that I will look for when I have time. Maybe in the confirmation records.
Takk for hjelpen

Hi Darryl
Both the churchbook from her baptizm and the census have birthdate June 28 for Erika/Erikka.
It might be the grave that have a wrong birthdate - or do you have her birthdate from another source?

Re: Where to find a Marriage in the 1950's
Hi Darryl,
Erika Marie Eriksen confirmation in Ullern church 22 April 1906, date of birth given was 28 June 1891 Oslo fylke, Vestre Aker, Ministerialbok nr. 12 (1894-1909), Konfirmerte 1906, # 5 - side 169. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-173
I have checked the banns records of Ullern 1947-1957 without finding the couple.
According to the Cemetary Agency of Oslo, the graves of Alf and Erika Ilbraaten does not longer exist. I have got the name of the last caretaker of the graves, but she is now deceased. Often grave caretakers are close relatives to the persons passed away. I was also able to get a name and address of a son of the deceased grave caretaker, so in case this info is of any interest of yours, mail me at "kjellathalvorsendotcom"
