Print to large format printer - 87 inch Family Tree Maker di
Trying to print my Family Tree Maker ver 9 tree diagram to a large
format printer at Kinkos. Kinkos says they can use KDF format - their
file format or PDF. Tried their driver software to produce KDF - can't
get entire diagram even when I set form to custom postscript 36" x 90".
Anyone used Kinkos's KDF driver with a large tree?
Also trying to print as a PDF. Using the free CutePDF printer driver
that works great for me on other things. Again, only get about 1/2 or
a bit more of my tree.
Anyone have a PDF writer that will take a 87-inch diagram?
Anyone use ver 10 and its output to PDF and use it for a long tree -
say 87 inches or so?
Tried reducing the resolution from 600 dpi to 300 dpi. No joy.
Other ideas?

Thanks. And FedEx-Kinkos will print 36-inch by x feet at approx
$1.25-1.50 per lineal foot (I forget the exact).

I quit updating FTM after I got version 8. For what I use it for, it
seems to do all that I want. FWIW, my version of Actobat is version 4,
and I run FTM with Acrobat on my old computer that's still on Win 98.
I run my other genealogy programs on the new computer on Win XP.

Bob,
Thanks for posting that information. I was actually thinking of having
the Hoffpauir Family tree printed out. The Hoffpauir Family
Association includes a PDF version of it on the CD they sell at the
annual reunion. But I just checked it, and the PDF file it produces is
2 ft wide by 2000 ft long.... I guess $3,000 is just a bit more than I
care to spend right now <g>.

So is it actually your FTM version 8 that you can print large format
output using your PDF driver? I am trying to figure out if the
limitation may be with my FTM version 9.

Bob,
Yes. Acrobat is without doubt the best PDF generator, but it's also
the most expensive. I doubt that your FTM ver 9 is a factor. I've been
generating PDFs from FTM (and other genealogy programs) since version
5 or 6.... whenever I got Acrobat. I don't think FTM "removed" any
features from FTM... they just quit adding more "real" features, so I
never found a reason to upgrade again.
