Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Søker informasjon om :
Erik Severinsen Melleby. Far: Aksel Severinsen Melby, Mor: Hanna Josefine Hansen
F: 21.03.1908, Borge Østfold
døpt: 26.07.1908 i Hvaler Kirke, Østfold.
Informasjon som jeg har fått av sletkninger:
- Han skal ha vært gift 2 ganger.
1. gang - "Solveig fra Tønsberg"
2. gang - "Mabel i USA"

Hello Margit,
As I mentioned in my first posting - The information I listed I have from realtives. These live in Norway - and have no further information.
So that is my source. I mentioned that I was aware that the source was very schetcy also. And I appoligized for this in my original posting.
If I had found him leaving Norway - I would have included a link to my source. So, no, I have not found him leaving Norway.
The census you are refering to is supposed to be his family, but since this source does not list the correct names of his sisters and brothers (and not even Erik himself) I chose not to include it here - since I thought this might be misleading.
I appologize if I have offended you in any way, that was certainly not my intention.
I did not post this to offend anyone.
But as I see that you have a very strong reaction to my posting, I really do applogize.

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Hello Hanne,
I think you might have found the Erik I am looking for. I saw in the enclosed picture that the date of birth was the same as I have found for "my" Erik.
I am not able to interpet the handwritten text - are you able to?
What kind of manifest is this?
You state: "Border Crossings" - but does it only mean that he is crossing the border - or has it any other meaning?
Thank you for your help!
Best regards!

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Hello Hanne,
This might be a "contender" to the "Mabel" I am looking for.
But I am aware that it is a "needle in a haystack"-quest looking for Erik and his family.
But it might be. I will save this information for later.
Thank you so much!
Best regards!

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Hi Torunn,
The record that Hanne found is Erik crossing the Canadian-American border. Erik left Liverpool, England on April 18th on the SS Cavina, which then sailed to Canada, landing at the Port of Montréal on May 1st. Seeing as Erik was a resident of the United States and not Canada, he obviously had to cross the Canadian-American border to get to his home in New York. When he crossed the border into the United States from Canada and went through American customs it was recorded. It looks if the group of people on the list were only allowed to enter the United States on something the American Department of Labor called a 'Group Transit Certificate', which was issued at the American Consulate in Montréal. Once the Group Transit Certificate was issued, everyone on the list was allowed to enter the United States, but could stay in the United States for only 60 days.
Basically, everyone on the list was residing in New York before they left the United States. They must have sailed to Europe, but on the return voyage, rather than sailing directly back to the United States, they ended up sailing to Montréal in Canada. They still had to get to the United States, so they crossed the border into the United States somewhere (I'm assuming) south of Montréal. Maybe at the American customs office in St Albans in Vermont, but I can't say for sure.
The above is likely the case with this particular record.

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Hello Erik,
Thank you for the explanation!
So Erik resided in New York. This of course makes the Mabel Hanne found a more likely candidate for Erik's second wife.
This is very interesting and I hope that I will be able to clarify this. Mabye an obituary for Mabel should "do the trick".
Anyway - thanks for all the help!

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
I have just gotten a note that says that Erik lived at:
727-56,street,Brooklyn New York
on Noember 11th 1948.
I belive I hae tried to find erik in the 1940 census on ancestry - but are not able to narrow him down.
But of course - this is 8 years later than the census, so he could have moved in the meantime of course.
Since I now have an adress at a spesific moment. What kind of information should I use further to find out more about Erik's life in the US?
Are there for example adressbooks online for New York in this period?
Thanks for all help!

Re: Erik Severinsen - Hvor endte han opp?
Trying to pick this up again.
I am looking for:
- Where did Erik die?
- What were the names of his wives?
- Did he ever have any children?
Hope someone can help me . I will say "Thank you" in advance for your contribution.
