Mallory corrections for _PA_

Douglas Richardson has repeatedly shown himself welcoming of corrections
to his very useful _Plantagenet Ancestry_. I would like to make a
correction and supply additional information for his coverage of the
Mallory family (pp.486-8.)

1) Generation 17 (p. 488): the Rev. Thomas Mallory, B.D., sometime
Rector of Northenden, Cheshire, was never Dean of Chester. It was rather
his father, the Very Rev. Thomas Mallory, D.D., that was Dean of Chester
from 1607 until his death in 1644. Mr. Richardson is correct in so
designating the father, but errs in so doing the son. Mr. Richardson is
however correct in stating that Thomas (junior) was Prebendary of
Chester. [_DNB_]

2) Generation 17, ii. (p. 488): Capt. Roger Mallory's daughter
Elizabeth Mallory was the wife of Martin Palmer of New Kent (later King
William) County, Virginia. They had issue, Martin, Roger, Thomas,
Charles, Jeffrey, Elizabeth (Butler) (Chandler), and Lucy (Powers)
Palmer. [National Genealogical Society Quarterly 61 (June 1973):127].

I would like to thank Mr. Richardson. A work such as _PA_, containing
as it does innumerable facts, will inevitably contain some errors. Such
a work could never be perfect in all details, and I think should be
understood to be a perpetual work in progress (and no onus should inhere
in this). That this vast work, given its scope, contains as few as it
does - and that Mr. Richardson proves himself so willing to accept
corrections and additions - is testimony to Mr. Richardson's skill, hard
work, and spirit of scholarship.

Dear Tony,
I certainly believe that this is your experience, but then look how you sign
your e-mail! You are in the USA, you have a responsible position in the
genealogical and historical world, sure you are somebody worthwhile
cultivating. But now, if you were to live, say, in New Zealand and your only
contribution to Douglas Richardson was a question, a question that may take
time to research and reply to, probably your experience would be different.

I do so sincerely hope that the "proper" reviews of Douglas Richardson's
book are positive, if they are not this would be such a tragedy. But then as
so much of the book is based on the work of Dr. Faris, I am confident that
this will be the case.
Best wishes
