This is the probate for Gunnar RESCH who died in 1850, in May I think.
http://arkivverket.no/URN:sk_read/25227/287/
It starts half way down on page 277b. It has 15 clauses and it is the words in Clause 15 on the opposite page 278a that are of most interest to me.
In it is the name Johann Michael four lines above the start of the inventory. My ancestor was Johan Michael Resch who died at Vinger on 25 May 1850
I would like to know if this Clause 15 refers to Johann Michael Resch or is this Johann something to do with Karelius Halvorsen mentioned in the text.
Gunnar Resch is not in my ancestor tree at the moment but if anything is stated about who he was it would also be of help.

Re: Probate Gunnar RESCH 1850, Vinger Hedmark
Just a little misunderstanding:
This is the probate of Garver Resch, not Gunnar. Garver is his occupation (tanner). Mr. Resch's given name is not mentioned. May be you should change the title of this topic?
Johan Michael is told to be the son of the deceased tanner Resch, and he was temporarly taken care of by Karelius Halvorsen Røhm (or Røhne). He (Karelius) was a tanner as well.
Regards
Else B.

Re: Probate Gunnar RESCH 1850, Vinger Hedmark
Thank you Else, the name now makes much more sense and I have changed the title of the topic.
The tanner is looking very much to be my ancestor. He was Johann Michael RESCH born 24 Oct 1802 in Faaberg and son of the Johannes RESCH, husband of Margarette Dorthea RESCH born WEYKE that you helped me with a couple of days ago.
Johann Michael RESCH died 25 May 1850 in Vinger. The son looked after by Karelius was probably Johan Michael MICHALSEN baptised 17 Jul 1842.
Johan Michael b. 1802 was the father of my Great Great Grandmother Johanne Mathilde Johannesdatter b 1834 Kristiania, the second of his four illegitimate children. On Johanne's baptism he was described as batchelor tanner so no doubt that this probate is him.
Is there any more information about him that would be of interest such as was he wealthy for the times or an ordinary tradesman? Anything else about his family or his life - I do not recognise any of the names in the clauses.
Takker igjen for hjelpen Else, er jeg veldig takknemlig

Re: Probate RESCH 1850, Vinger Hedmark
Dear Darryl, I find the probate pretty hard to read, but my impression is that he was not especially wealthy. Most of his belongings are tools and equipment for his profession as a tanner. The furniture is rather simple, and he did not have much gold or silver. What I have found is: 1 golden ring, 1 toothpicker and 1 signet made of silver, two silver spoons and one silver teaspoon. His clothes were pretty good, though. He had a black tailcoat with a pair of trousers and a vest made of silk. He also had a pair of grey trousers and a grey coat and four shirts and one pair of green gloves. One interesting thing was that he owned a book about the arts of pharmacy.
I have looked after the son who is mentioned in the probate, and I found him in the Norwegian census of 1865. He lived together with his mother and worked as a lumberjack. His name is given as Johan Resk. I also found him in the census of 1900. Then called Johan M. Risch and living in Grong I Trøndelag.
I have worked quite a lot with families from Norwegian and Swedish glassworks and have a bit of information about the families Resch, Filion and Laumann. If you have more questions about these families, I can send you some information.
Best wishes

Thank you so much Anne for that information on the probate. It is very helpful and gives me much more of an idea of the man that he was.
I have found quite a lot of the information you have put up on the web which has helped me understand the glass making history of my Resch, Filion and Laumann ancestors.
I will send you a PM.
