Correction of the date of a death in Iceland?

I need clarification of the date of death of Þorlákur Arngrímsson b. 6 Mar
1841 in Knappstadir, Skagafjörður, Iceland. I know he died in a boating
accident in the Dýrafirði fjord in northwest Iceland but the database I have
been using lists the date of his death as 1871 and I know he had a son,
Magnús Tryggvi Þorláksson who was b. June 22 1872. Because of the
significant difference in time between the father's death and the son's
birth, I wonder if Þorlákur's death was actually in 1872, not 1871. Can
anyone suggest a source I might use for clarification of this date?

Maybe I am missing something obvious, but when I do the math in my head,
(June 22 1872)minus(9 month gestation period) equals (a conception date of
approx. Sept. 22 1871). That means he could have died in September, October,
November or December 1871.
Are you questioning the date? or just looking for a better reference of the
month and day?
